Obi-Wan Kenobi is a new Star Wars 6-part series on Disney+. It tells the story of Obi-Wan in his dark years -- after Vader’s turn but before A New Hope
Consequence.net says Ewan McGregor is incredible after a 17-year break as Obi-Wan
The Verge says it succeeds by playing all the classic Star Wars hits
But Wired says Obi-Wan shows that Disney’s plan for endless sprawling spin-offs isn’t working. They’re boring and exhausting!
Variety disagrees: “The show doesn’t try to be something different, nor should it. This is one of the most iconic characters in Star Wars”
But The Guardian says it’s only so-so and really didn’t need to be made. The fight scenes are a ton of fun, though
And NPR says the series can’t get past the fact that everyone already knows how the story ends
But CNET says the series actually did a good job of working within the existing timeline -- until the finale
By the way, James Earl Jones is back as the voice of Darth Vader!
The series’ writer says Vader was even scarier in the original drafts. They pulled back a bit to give more shape to his anger and rage
But -- like with any Star Wars spinoff -- a group of toxic internet fans popped up. This time, they sent hundreds of racist messages to Moses Ingram, who plays a Sith Inquisitor
